last year over 125,000 kids' fiction books were borrowed from the libraries which barnet council is currently considering destroying
SAVE BARNET LIBRARIES is a group of concerned citizens who care about the future of children, communities & our economy. We want to live in a world that values literacy & skills, pro-social behaviour, common sense & good government. We admire & value professional librarians who are crucial in an information age. We are not a political organisation and we welcome anyone who believes libraries matter to a functional society - now more than ever.
THE FOLLOWING PROPOSALS WERE DEVELOPED IN A LIBRARY REVIEW FOR WHICH BARNET COUNCIL PAID £200,000. NONE OF THE LIBRARIES BARNET PROPOSES TO CLOSE COSTS AS MUCH TO RUN ALL YEAR AS THE DOCUMENT BARNET PRODUCED WITH RESPECT TO CLOSING OR CURTAILING THEM.
- Option 1 proposes de-professionalising 2 libraries and reducing 9 libraries to the roughly the same size of a London Underground carriage.
- Option 2 proposes closing 5 libraries which all happen to be the ones with the greatest increase in borrowing of children's fiction over the last 5 years.
- Option 3 proposes de-professionalising 4 libraries which are amongst the most used by children and closing 2 highly used libraries.
